Baby Food -How to introduce solid food ( 6++ baby) By Shafi

Today I want to share important recipes for babies… We should give all essential vitamins and minerals for baby from small age. It is very very good for their good health and future..

But main think…. most of the mother don’t know When we have started solid food, which type of food we will introduce for them….

I have 2 children. First one is 7 year old and 2nd baby is just 8 month completed. Honestly I say…. For first baby I did more mistakes to introduce food.  After 2 month only I corrected. But for second baby I’m following and introducing food in correct way.

I introduced for both children on 6 month completion and also giving breast milk up to 2 years

I want to share something that’s my pediatrician advice. I followed that now my children are having a good food habit..
Breast Feeding

It is the most ideal way of feeding your child. Continue the same up to 2 years…

Don’t stop Breast Feeding even if you have started solid food. (Its my opinion)

Before that you should not give even a single drop of water.
Actually that is not needed for the baby.
Mothers’ milk is enough for the baby. Very few women gets less milk. If you take good healthy intake that is enough.

In my website I add more recipes for mother.. You can drink minimum 1 liter milk/ per day, eat fish and more vegetables and fruits, add more garlic in your food, Tapioca/ kappa/ maravalli kilangu. Half an hour earlier to your baby milk time, you drink milk/ juice/ water

Don’t feel shy when you are breastfeeding your baby even in the public place.

When you feed baby, wash your breast and then feed

First 3 month avoid more spicy and frying foods. It may give digestion trouble for babies

Always consult your baby’s pediatrician about feeding new food

when you can start giving Solid Food:

  1. Start giving food when the baby is 6 months or completed
  2.  Food should contain

* It should be naturally fruits, vegetables, cereal, pulses
* Cereal like rice/wheat/ragi etc.,
* Pulse like Toor dal etc.,
* Should be solid
* Contain sweet (don’t add sugar but we can add palm jiggery/ panakarkandu/ karupatti) Try to train them to avoid salt and sugar up to 2 years..
* contain fat like ghee, butter, oil (After 8 or 9 month)

  1. Give always homemade food..don’t give packed food ( ceralac, farex etc.,) So kids won’t love homemade food when they grow.
  2. Give intervals between each feed..at least 2 hrs. Then only baby will get hungry.. Best way we can feed

Morn 8 am, then 11 am

Afternoon 1 pm

Evening 5 pm

Night before 7pm( Don’t give food after 8 pm Sometime it can’t be digest)

From my experience we make my baby sit with us when we eat our food that time i’m feeding her. So she eat interestingly

Before you start feeding your baby:

1)The first thing you have to remember is, start with mild non allergenic food.

2) Start with less portions, initially your baby need only 3 to 4 spoons of the food. So don’t make an entire bowl of food and look for your baby to empty the whole thing. Gradually increase the portion size.

3)Never force while feeding your baby. This will make your baby get a bad feeling about food and she will start refusing all foods and go wild during feeding time.

4) Give breaks between each spoonful of feed. I usually leave a couple of minutes break between each spoonful and show her toys or make funny faces, so she gets into jolly mood and enjoy the next spoon of food.

5) Let your baby swallow each mouthful properly before the next spoon.

6) If you are introducing a new food for your baby, continue that for 3 to 4 days. Don’t introduce new foods each day, so your baby gets to know about the food and familiarize herself with that taste.

7)Don’t introduce more than one new food on a single day. This may cause problems in her digestion

8) If your baby doesn’t like some food, try that food some other time.

9)Feeding your baby can be quite messy and takes lots of time. So don’t be in a rush when you are feeding. Spend lots of time in feeding.

After you finished feeding your baby:

1)If you find that your baby has some symptoms like vomiting, constant crying, diarrhea and something which makes you think that it is not right with your baby, you have to stop giving the particular food immediately.

2) Give some water after giving solid foods.

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:
Start by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

sterilize baby’s things

My opinion, Try to avoid plastics bowls and feeding bottles. We can use steel or glass.  We can easily sterilize but at the same time handle glass bowls very carefully..
safest first food
low risk alergy

These food are very safe for all baby.. All safest and low allergy food can give for all baby without scare. It can be easily digest.

high risk allergy

High Allergy food are not suitable for all babies at all time, Some time It will give diarrhea/ vomit/ stomach pain/ constipation/ Stomach upset etc…

Doctor recommended for my baby not to give cow milk up to 1 year completed, It may affects their stomach and also affect their well growing

Coconut- We can use coconut milk.

For babies 6 to 8 month steam the fruits and vegetables If possible,  for easier digestion.
